After taking a few weeks off for the international break for CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers, MLS action is back as the Vancouver Whitecaps host the Houston Dynamo.
Houston is expected to field a makeshift line-up as four of the team's starters are still out on international duty. JeVaughn Watson and Jermaine Taylor are away with Jamaica, Andre Hainault with Canada, and Geoff Cameron away with the United States Men's National team.
With so many days off since both teams last played, rustiness could be an issue, but the Whitecaps started the season well and will hope to resume their run of form. Houston continues to be a bit of a work in progress as Dom Kinnear tries to figure out what team he will see. The typically solid defense has been leaky on and off this season, and the midfield still looks a bit shapeless and out of form.
In their last MLS game, the Dynamo defeated the LA Galaxy, 2-1, in a 2011 MLS Cup rematch on May 26. Vancouver earned a 1-1 draw at the Portland Timbers on May 26.
Houston is 4-3-4 (16 points) after 11 games. The Whitecaps are 5-3-4 (19 points) through 12 games.
The Dynamo are 1-1 in the regular season against the Whitecaps, who joined MLS in 2011. Each team earned a win at home, including Houston's 3-1 win at Robertson Stadium on Apr. 10 and Vancouver triumphing 1-0 on Aug. 27 in British Columbia.
