An event I'd like to be able to get out to one day, if I'm ever able to unchain myself from my desk, is the Sloan Sports Conference. Sure, it takes place in Massachusetts, in the winter, but it'd be an exhilarating to share spreadsheets with all the other cool nerds in sports.
↵Both Rockets GM Daryl Morey and ex-Rockets head coach Jeff Van Gundy talked a little about what went on (and still goes on) behind the scenes in Houston, including a few juicy tidbits on ex-players. Here's a few tidbits from the Twitterverse on it.
↵↵↵FO_BBarnwell Marcus Banks' preferred profession, according to @dmorey at #ssac: "Male fashion model".
↵DraftExpress JVG: Stromile Swift. Effort level, love of game were his issues. Great guy, just didn't have same expectations from self as I did. #ssac

Poor Stromile. I actually thought that move would put the Rockets over the top. Oh, to be 20 again. To me, the most interesting quote was this:
↵↵↵DraftExpress Daryl Morey: Picking flaws more than picking attributes. Especially in draft. Which areas do we think we can improve? #ssac
↵
That caught my eye, especially since the Rockets have often picked from outside the lottery. It really akes you wonder if that was a big factor on Aaron Brooks (defensively) or how it relates to Patrick Patterson's holes in his game right now.
