Tom Martin over at The Dream Shake has a very good look at just who's making up the Houston starting five right now. Basically, Daryl Morey got all these players for nothing, including a guy in Kyle Lowry who's emerging as a legitimate star at point guard.
↵It's a roster with problems, but it's a good one nonetheless. If Morey ever got actual impact players (like Pau Gasol), he'd be easily considered a great GM who should hopefully be there for another 10-15 years.
↵However, because he's whiffed on free agency and landing that big trade, I've had numerous conversations with a friend of mine about whether Morey should keep his job. Or, if Morey has just convinced Les Alexander not to evaluate him fairly.
↵It's hard to evaluate a GM. As good as Morey has done constructing this starting team, he hasn't landed a big fish. He hasn't gotten his team to the next level or contended for a championship. He's done the best he could with the hand he was dealt. For me, that's enough to keep him around a long time.
