The Houston Rockets defeated the New Orleans Hornets, 97-90, in NBA preseason action on Wednesday night based on the strength of 20 points from forward Carlos Delfino.
Delfino, new to the Rockets roster this season, shot 7-15 from the field in 30 minutes to lead Houston in scoring. The Rockets outscored the Hornets in the third quarter, 29-16, to take control of the game.
Rookie forward Terrence Jones gave a solid contribution to the Rockets as well, scoring 15 points and grabbing nine rebounds in 33 minutes. Jones spent some time dueling his former Kentucky teammate Anthony Davis. The No. 1 draft pick scored 13 points and added 8 rebounds in 38 minutes of play.
Omer Asik continued his rebounding tear for Houston as well, pulling down 14 boards in 34 minutes of action. The Hornets were led in scoring by Ryan Anderson, who shot 9-15 for 23 points.
The Rockets, now with a 4-2 record, finish the preseason on Friday, Oct. 26 against the Orlando Magic.
