James Harden continued his scoring tear to start the season, recording 45 points in Friday night's victory over the Atlanta Hawks. Jeremy Lin added 21 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in the 109-102 win. The score was tied 92-92 in the fourth quarter with four minutes to go, but Harden scored seven of the Rockets' next ten points to put the game out of reach. Omer Asik had a career-high 19 rebounds in the game, while second-year forward Marcus Morris scored 17 points.
The New Orleans Hornets got their first win of the season in last-second form. Paul Millsap tied the game up at 86 on a three-pointer with seven seconds left. Out of the timeout, point guard Greivis Vasquez got free to sink a floater with one second remaining, giving the Hornets an 88-86 victory. New Orleans' rookie forward Anthony Davis left the game when he was elbowed in the head by teammate Austin Rivers. After the game, it was revealed Davis suffered a concussion and would miss Saturday's game at Chicago, at the very least.
The Los Angeles Lakers are now 0-3 after falling to the Los Angeles Clippers, 105-95. Chris Paul scored 18 points and dished out 15 assists for the Clippers, who moved to 2-0 on the season. The Lakers, playing without point guard Steve Nash after he injured his leg Thursday night against Portland, got 40 points from Kobe Bryant but were never in sync defensively.
