Rockets Take Jeremy Lamb: Good Pick, Not Great

Jeremy Lamb is a hard player to figure out for me. He's a guy with top 5 talent, but inconsistent effort is a big concern. Hopefully that's just the type of immaturity a 20-year-old will eventually grow out of, but Kevin McHale will need to ride him hard from day 1.

Purely from a on-the-court view, Lamb could end up being a steal with the 12th overall pick. Lamb can beat his defender off the dribble, handles the ball well, can hit the mid-range jumper, and has range out to the 3-point line. compares him to Reggie Miller, probably a reach, but he does have big-time potential. He can shoot off the dribble, off a screen, on a spot up; he's just a big time scorer. Lamb averaged 17 points on 47% shooting, 5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1 steal per game last season. His inconsistent effort shows up more on the defensive end, but with a 6-11 wingspan; if he's coached up well, he could develop into a good defender.

Overall, it's not the pick I would have made, but it's a solid pick. I would have preferred a big-man like Tyler Zeller or John Henson, but getting a player with the talent and upside of Lamb with the 12th pick is a nice surprise.
