The Houston Rockets have made their first target in free agency known, and that is in Chicago Bulls restricted free agent center Omer Asik. The free agency period officially begins at 11 p.m. CT Saturday night, and that is when teams can talk to players. The Rockets want to plug in Amik to be a defensive presence in the middle.
The Rockets have been trying to land Asik via trade over the past two seasons but they have been unsuccessful in doing so. With Asik being a restricted free agent the Bulls are able to match any offer that the Rockets present.
One thing that could go on the Rockets favor is that Asik is a backup center to Joakim Noah and the Bulls may need to be mindful of possibly heading into the luxury tax to keep Amik around as a backup.
