The 2012 NBA free agency period is underway and the Houston Rockets have made their first move by agreeing to terms with Chicago Bulls backup center Omer Asik. Asik met with Rockets general manager Dary Morey this morning, and the meeting must have gone well since the two sides came to an agreement.
Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix is reporting that the deal is for three years and worth $25.1 million, but since this is the negotiating period of free agency the contract can not officially be signed until July 11.
Asik is a restricted free agent so the Bulls can match the offer, however the the Bulls are not looking to over spend for a backup center. The Rockets are planning to use Asik as a defensive presence in the middle.
