Texans Claim Ex-Dolphins CB Jason Allen On Waivers, Make Practice Squad Move

The Houston Texans, according to NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora, have claimed Dolphins cornerback/safety Jason Allen off waivers. Allen was waived after CB Al Harris signed on with the Dolphins upon his release from Green Bay.

Allen has been sort of a black sheep for Dolphins fans over the past couple of years, but had a few great games so far this year. Particularly when he caught two interceptions against the Vikings and blanketed Bernard Berrian. It’s unclear as of yet what his role will be with the Texans, as both safety and cornerback could use a lot of help.

But he really can’t hurt, at this point.

EDIT: John McClain of the Houston Chronicle claims that Dominique Barber will be placed on injured reserve to make room for Allen.

EDIT 2: The official Houston Texans Twitter also announces that center Brett Helms has been released from the practice squad and will be replaced by center Cody Wallace. Wallace, 25, was a 4th round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft and played at Texas A&M. He was released by the 49ers during final cuts and has spent time with the Jets practice squad, the Lions practice squad, and the Lions 53-man roster so far this season.
