Nick Scurfield's Brush With An Illiterate Vince Young Fanboy

New, 3 comments

Nick Scurfield, one of the main public relations bloggers on HoustonTexans.com, runs a live chat every week where he answers questions from fans. Scurfield was taking some heat in the chat for presenting things with optimism, which is silly, because that's part of his job description. He's supposed to keep things tight-lipped and not tip hands, guys, he works for the team. Ask him some questions about things he can comment on: injury issues, quotes, the general feeling he has about a game here or there.

Or, failing that, ask him about Vince Young in a way that hurts to read:

Nick Scurfield: He's still under contract with the Titans, and that's that.

The VY fanbase always trolls into town the hardest after Matt Schaub throws a couple of bad interceptions, even against one of the better defenses in the league. Normally they stick to the radio, but I guess now that we're 5-8 and the quarterback who led the team back from a 28-7 deficit made one poor throw in overtime, RABBLERABBLERABBLERABBLE!

Signing Vince Young is a no-win situation for the Texans. He's not better than Matt Schaub, he's completely immature despite having been in the league for five seasons now, he's injury-prone, and even the act of having him as a backup would just further embolden his fanbase in the city. Every bad Schaub throw would lead to camera cuts to the sidelines for VY's reaction.

He's just not a good enough player to deal with all the drama it would bring to the table.
