With Tim Tebow Starting, How Will Texans Gameplan Against Him?

New, 3 comments

Tim Tebow very well may be the rawest non-Rusty Smith passer the Texans defense has had to deal with all year. But that presents two problems:

↵

1) Every passer besides Smith has torn the Texans defense apart
2) Tebow's legs make him a huge threat in the underneath game, which Texans defensive coordinator Frank Bush almost never honors the way he should.

↵

With Tebow's slow release and questionable accuracy, one would think that you'd blitz him over and over again. Not only is that not Bush's style, but it also would let Tebow get out in open space and make some huge plays against a secondary that can't tackle.

So, would you try to play him like Michael Vick? Use contain rushes and hope he misses his throws? Or would you pressure him and see what happens when he gets out of the pocket? This would be a much more fascinating game if the Texans were in the playoff hunt, or if Frank Bush's job weren't assumed to be over already, but I'm really interested to see how the Texans handle Tebow. I know a lot of people are turned off by Tebow's antics (anti-abortion ads) and the hype that surrounds him, but he really makes for a pretty unique NFL player and I'm curious to watch the film on him and see what the Texans will try.
