Texans Help Surprise Military Widow

Don't read this story unless you want things to get a little dusty in the room. Especially the part about the son still talking to his dad. That was pretty rough.

But, what makes this story so interesting is as a counterbalance to the Jeremy Shockey story from Sunday. You know, when Shockey called out Texans players for their behavior during the national anthem. Now, Shockey is a blowhard and isn't exactly the best source for moral outrage, but it's clear he takes his patriotism very seriously. I just don't know if he's got a good point here.

One of the big things the Texans have done right since they joined the league is how they've interacted with the community. They've done a lot to impact Houston in many ways and helping this organization help set up a surprise for a military widow is no different.

It probably won't soothe Shockey's hurt feelings, but it does show the Texans have their priorities right. At least, owner Bob McNair knows the impact of things like this, both on PR and to this family.
