Texans DC Wade Phillips Back In Action

The Texans are getting healthier by the day. After Andre Johnson was announced to be coming back this weekend (probably), it was nice to see first-year defensive coordinator Wade Phillips back in action.

↵

The Texans did not look great in their two games without Phillips. It wasn't all on interim coordinator Reggie Herring as much as the offense couldn't play as well as it had before, thus leaving the defense on the field much longer than normal.

↵

There may have been some feel things that Herring didn't do in timing blitzes and the like. Certainly, it seemed like the Colts were able to adjust to the pressure as that game went on, making the blitzes less effective.

↵

Will Phillips make the difference this weekend? Probably not a big one. The offensive problems that were on display against the Colts are not going away. Houston can control the ball with its running game, thus keeping the defense off the field, but it's hard to do that without a real passing game. Unless T.J. Yates can pick it up in the regular season finale, this won't get better.
