John McClain of the Houston Chronicle is reporting that the Houston Texans will move to add more experience at quarterback by waiving Kellen Clemens and signing Jeff Garcia, this after veteran Jake Delhomme was signed last week to back up rookie quarterback T.J. Yates.
Garcia had worked out for the Texans alongside Delhomme, who was chosen over the former Eagles and 49ers (late of the defunct UFL Omaha Nighthawks) because of his comfort as a "quarterback whisperer" for Yates, and not someone vying to win the starter's job. Garcia has familiarity with the Texans system, having worked under current quarterbacks coach Greg Knapp in San Francisco.
Through two games, Yates has been impressive but not flashy. He was 12 of 25 for 188 yards and a touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons in a 17-10 win Sunday, his first career start.
