NFL Draft 2011: Mel Kiper Picks The Texans As A Surprise Super Bowl Contender

We're a little far off from outlandish Super Bowl predictions featuring the Texans, as that cycle usually goes full throttle around August, but Mel Kiper Jr. is calling his shot early. On Twitter, he said that the Texans, should they get a good defensive draft, could be a Super Bowl contender.

Houston Texans to the Super Bowl. I think they will be a legit contender with a strong defensive draft.

That's exactly right. I said it's contingent on the Texans adding some hole fillers on defense. Kareem Jackson needs to step up.

Kiper's latest mock draft had the Texans selecting UNC linebacker Robert Quinn. That would be a real coup for the team based on perceived draft value, if not necessarily what Daniel Charles wants. It's amazing how much rests on who is available with that No. 11 pick. If the Texans can land Quinn or Prince Amukamara, it could be the start of a really good defensive draft for the team.

If they land Aldon SmithMaybe not so much.
