Another Texas Longhorn is headed to the NFL. Following fellow UT cornerbacks Aaron Williams and Curtis Brown, Chykie Brown (5'11", 191) has now joined the ranks of the NFL, to the Baltimore Ravens.
Brown will join a fantastic defensive culture in Baltimore, along with fellow rookie, Colorado cornerback Jimmy Smith.
The Longhorns had quite a surplus of talent at the defensive back position, but that didn't stop Chykie from raising some eyebrows around the league. Brown has great, fluid hips, allowing him to turn and run well with receivers. He's shown adeptness at both press and zone coverage. He's a very willing tackler, who likes to stick his nose in and hit in run support situations.
He has a tendency to misdiagnose the run vs. pass. Another knock on Brown is that he does not have good recovery speed when he gets beaten deep, despite having strong speed numbers on paper.
Brown could do better than your typical 6th round draft choice. Considering the coaching and culture of the Ravens, plus his strong work ethic, Brown's in an excellent position to succeed early.
