Baylor took quite a break after Danny Watkins and Phil Taylor went in the first round, but they’ve now notched two seventh round picks with Mikail Baker by the Rams and now Jay Finley by the Bengals. Finley was the 246th pick of the 2011 NFL Draft and he’ll see if he can fit into a crowded Bengals backfield.
Finley ran a 4.53 40 with a 39 inch vertical at Baylor’s pro day. He rushed for 1218 yards last year, along with 12 touchdowns, as the ground game to back up highly regarded Robert Griffin III’s more highly regarded aerial attack.
Cedric Benson is a free agent, so right now Bernard Scott tops the Bengals depth chart at running back. Finley will likely wind up being a change-of-pace back for the Bengals anyway, but he should provide adequate insurance for them should they be unable to find a different back. They’re clearly expecting Benson back since they didn’t draft a back until the seventh round.
