Plaxico Burress Likes The Texans, What Does Rick Smith Think?

In a recent NFL Network interview, Plaxico Burress had this to say about the Houston Texans:

↵
"When you say Houston, all I can say is 'Wow.’ "That's all I can say, because I give respect where respect is due. And I believe Andre Johnson is the best wide receiver in football. ... The way he's playing down in Houston, they're getting everything going in the right direction. Matt Schaub has really taken off as an elite quarterback. I think Arian Foster is one of the top-five running backs in this league. I think that team is bound for the playoffs this year and looking forward to great things."
↵

Burress was asked about which teams he would like to play for, and he listed the Texans along with the Jets and Eagles. This report is a little surprising, but you can't argue with Burress' statements. Who wouldn't like to catch balls from Matt Schaub when secondaries are more concerned with Andre Johnson?

I think it would be tough for Rick Smith and Co. to sign Burress strictly because of his past with the law. Burress has been in jail for the last two years for carrying a gun into a New York nightclub and shooting himself in the leg. When looking at the big picture, the Texans are a model franchise composed of mainly great professionals, on and off the field.

For that reason alone, it could be difficult for the front office to even consider signing the former Giants wide receiver. It would be somewhat similar to the Ron Artest acquisition several years ago by the Rockets, and we'll have to see what the front office decides to do. We obviously need to upgrade the secondary first and foremost, but Burress could be a relatively cheap option if Jacoby Jones doesn't come back.
