With only one day remaining until the Houston Texans' preseason opener against the Jets, let's take a brief look at training camp's recent events.. Special thanks to the folks at Battle Red Blog for their extensive coverage and updates.
↵- Jeff Maehl is drawing some rave reviews after catching everything near him. He's in strong contention for the 4th/5th receiver spot, and I think he would look nice in some five receiver sets with his agility and precise route-running. Kevin Walter 2.0?
↵- Johnathan Joseph again sat out practice on Saturday as he continues to recover from a groin injury. His absence has obviously affected the secondary in a negative fashion, and Gary Kubiak is upset with the lack of leadership without Joseph:
↵↵↵"All of a sudden, Johnathan misses practice and I thought we practiced very poorly on the back end. Nobody else took over. ... We’re looking for that leadership. We’re trying to find a new identity in 2011, and we’re going to find it through days like this."
↵
- Unfortunately T.J. Yates had an awful day yesterday, overthrowing plenty of receivers and struggling with his control. While Kubiak has expressed his substantial faith in Matt Leinart as a back-up, maybe Gary's inner quarterback can help Yates rebound.
↵I have been in attendance for a couple of training camp practices this week, and I personally was most impressed with first-rounder J.J. Watt's performance. His explosiveness and high motor were enjoyable to watch, and I know that I'm not the only one with similar thoughts.
↵A little over 24 hours until our Texans take on the Jets at Reliant Stadium, and I couldn't be any more excited to watch this team play.
