2012 NFL Mock Draft: Texans Taking NT Dontari Poe

At this point, it's getting a little old. Everyone always assumes Houston needs a nose tackle. But, if this season proved anything, it's that Wade Phillips scheme doesn't need a traditional NT to work and that Shaun Cody and Earl Mitchell are just fine.

It's not that I'd dislike a pick of a guy like Poe. After all, J.J. Watt made a huge impact on the team from the defensive line, making all the other players around him better. Poe could do the same thing for the linebackers in the middle, and it's pretty scary to think that Brian Cushing could take it up a notch from his performance this season.

One think that I think the Texans will definitely address this offseason is the No. 2 receiver spot. I know they like Kevin Walter for his blocking and just signed Jacoby Jones to that extension. But, the fact that Jones didn't take a step forward this season even though Johnson was sidelined for so long is worrisome. Drafting a receiver at this spot, someone like South Carolina's Alshon Jeffery, Baylor's Kendall Wright or Wisconsin's Nick Toon, could make a lot of sense.

However it works out, I'm just getting excited for draft time again. Last year, the lockout completely sapped my enjoyment of the leadup to the draft, so I'm looking forward to a bounce-back season of combines, workouts and draft rumors. Wooo!
