2012 NFL Mock Draft: Texans Projected To Take WR Ashlon Jeffery

The Houston Texans are expected to take either a wide receiver or a defensive tackle with their first round pick and Walter Football who has put out a four round mock draft has the Texans going with a wide receiver with their No. 26 pick:

No. 26 Houston Texans: Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina Gamecocks:

I asked this question in my 2013 NFL Mock Draft: How long is Gary Kubiak going to make us fantasy football owners suffer through Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones? The Texans really need an upgrade across from Andre Johnson.

This is a pretty easy pick. Alshon Jeffery is a steal down here (many are down on him because of speed concerns) and happens to fill a huge need.

A wide receiver is probably the pick that will help the Texans get to the next level more than adding a defensive lineman to an already stellar unit. Jeffrey's stock has dropped after having a poor senior season where his receptions and receiving yards were cut in half.

The second round pick is where Walter Football projects the Texans to take a defensive tackle:

No. 56 Houston Texans: Josh Chapman, NT, Alabama Crimson Tide

I really like this pick for the Texans. They need help at nose tackle, and Wade Phillips prefers smaller players at the position. Plus, Houston has seemed to favor prospects out of the southeast in recent drafts.

The third round pick is an interesting selection as it is another wide receiver, but it is Stephen Hill out of Georgia Tech. Tech runs a triple option offense and had only 28 receptions, but he did have 820 yards which was an average of 29 yards per catch. The projected fourth round pick is another defensive player in Cal defensive end/tackle Trevor Guyton.
