Can Texans Upgrade At QB (And Not With T.J. Yates)?

New, 1 comment

Okay, we know the Houston Texans will be in trouble with their cap this year, trying to get a bunch of players signed without much space. That includes standout defensive player Mario Williams, who is coming off a torn pectoral muscle and didn't have much time to make an impact in new defensive coordinator Wade Phillips' scheme.

What do they do at quarterback, though? Matt Schaub has been very good when he has been healthy, but his injury at the end of the year kept the Texans from being as good as they could have been in the playoffs. As this article shows,Schaub's contract is up after next season, so the Texans could either choose to extend him or make a move.

What if they cut him and went after a certain QB from Indianapolis? There are all sorts of questions regarding Peyton's health. I know that. But, if he's healthy, does it make sense for Houston to go after him on a short-term deal, let him prove he's healthy and see if he can take them into the postseason? If it doesn't work out, they'll have a year or two more to develop T.J. Yates and let him take over.

The question is, does Peyton Manning give Houston a better chance at the Super Bowl than Matt Schaub? If he's healthy enough to play, I say yes. I'm not sure Kubiak will do something this drastic, but it's nice to speculate wildly sometimes.
