J.J. Watt Garners More Rookie Attention

Texans rookie defensive end J.J. Watt was named to the National Football Post All-Rookie defensive team this week. Here's what they had to say about the powerful lineman:

Watt was the Texans first-round pick and had an excellent season. He is big, strong, tough and athletic and showed some dominating traits in his play this year. His play is one of the reasons the Texans defense improved as much as it did. Watt finished the year with 56 total tackles and 5.5 sacks. His all-out motor is one of the things that make him so good. He has a bright future.

One of the reasons why I've liked watching Watt play this year is that motor. I can't count the number of tackles I've seen him make down the field and it seems like all his sacks come from him just fighting and fighting through his blocks to get to the QB. Against the Colts, he was the best defensive player on the field, even though those dumbly called penalties took away from that a bit.

Still, it's nice to see Watt getting some much deserved attention. After years of drafting underperforming defensive linemen, having one come in and make an impact immediately has been a pleasant surprise.
