Matt Schaub nominated for offensive player of the week

Texans quarterback Matt Schaub was one of three offensive players nominated for FedEx Air Player of the Week on Tuesday by the National Football League.

Brett Davis-US PRESSWIRE

Following a strong performance in a Week 7 blowout win over Baltimore, Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub was nominated for FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, according to the team's official site.

Schaub completed 62 percent of his passes for 256 yards and a pair of touchdowns against a talented Ravens secondary, in a 30-point win that effectively put the Texans in full control of the AFC after seven weeks of the season. The 31-year-old Schaub now ranks ninth in the NFL with a 93.1 quarterback rating, and bounced back in a big way from his dismal two-interception game against the Packers in Week 6.

Also named along with Schaub are fellow quarterbacks Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers, who each put in a pair of head-turning statistical games to propel their teams to crucial victories. Brees racked up 377 yards and four touchdowns through the air to overwhelm the Buccaneers, while Rodgers tossed three touchdowns of his own to go with 341 yards to beat the Rams. Fans will be allowed to vote at NFL.com/FedEx until 2 p.m. CT on Friday, as the Week 7 winner will be announced live on NFL Network shortly thereafter.
