Check that, $50 million is $50 million. I'm sure that was a HUGE reason why Mario Williams is now going to do his best Bruce Smith impression with Buffalo.
↵But, I found this tweet veeeery interesting:
↵↵"Other intentions" may just mean the move to a 3-4 defense. Remember that Williams wasn't necessarily a fan of the move to linebacker he had to make this season, even if he played the good soldier and did everything he could to fit into Wade Phillips' system.
↵The question in my mind is this: if Mario was going to leave for a 4-3 anyways, is Mario worth more than Wade? Would you rather keep Williams and not have Wade running the defense?
↵To me, it's an easy trade. As good as Mario is, he's one guy. Plus, having him on those teams before this season never translated to a top 10 defense. Wade can make all 11 guys better. His job would have been easier if Mario had stuck around, but he's still going to have some very good players to put in position this season.
↵It's a tough call, and there's no silver lining to losing a player like Williams. But, if it comes down to Wade or Mario...
