Texans Free Agency: Jerome Solomon Says Don't Panic

Didn't realize Jerome Solomon and the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy had so much in common. His latest column over at the Chronicle preaches patience with the Houston Texans as free agents stream out the door left and right.

↵

He goes back to many different examples of recent Super Bowl teams losing free agents and not really making any big acquisitions. For instance:

↵
↵

I don’t think Green Bay signed any free agent most people would know, and they lost pass-rushing linebacker Aaron Kampman, who had been a defensive end until Green Bay switched to a 3-4 the year before. (Sound familiar.)

Jason Allen won't be missed, unless Kareem Jackson gets more playing time as a result (please, dear God, no...). I've already worried enough about how good Andre Caldwell can move in space, but let's leave that for another time. Rashad Butler could be good at right tackle and should at least be an upgrade in the passing game.

↵

That just leaves Mario, who wasn't with Houston's defense down the stretch or in that playoff victory. That doesn't mean he won't be missed, just that Houston can overcome it.

↵

People panic in free agency all the time. Look at one of the big spenders so far, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Does anyone really think they'll finish with a better record than the Texans next season?
