2012 NFL Mock Draft: Houston Texans Take A Receiver, But Not Kendall Wright

The Houston Texans and Kendall Wright have seemed to be all but a done deal according to countless mock drafts in recent months. But while there's no A.J. Green or Julio Jones in the top of this WR class, there's a solid group of potential first rounders, and a ton of teams looking to get more vertical. That, as the National Football Post predicts, could mean Wright doesn't fall all the way to the Texans:

26. Houston Texans: LSU WR Rueben Randle

The Texans would love to add another vertical threat to the offense to take some pressure off Andre Johnson and Randle has the strider speed to be a threat down the field and take the top off a defense.

Why not Wright, the prohibitive local favorite to end up with Houston? Because the Broncos beat Houston to the punch just a pick earlier:

25. Denver Broncos: Baylor WR Kendall Wright

After signing QB Peyton Manning, adding a big play threat to open up the field vertically and complement the pieces the Broncos already have in place makes a lot of sense for Denver.

Randle certainly doesn't have the stats of Wright, but that's in large part because of the drastically different offenses they participated in at the collegiate level. Randle was a top prep prospect and has, when given the chance, shown speed and reliability in the deep passing game.
