The first unofficial Houston Texans depth chart has been released and there are no real surprises prior to the team's first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers on Saturday. All of the expected starters are listed as the first-stringers out of training camp for the time being.
Paul Kuharsky at ESPN.com pointed out some things that are interesting to note, however, as far as which players are listed as second string in the very early going. First-round draft pick Whitney Mercilus is listed as a backup in the outside linebacker position, currently penciled in as second string to Connor Barwin on the weakside.
Over on the strong side at linebacker, Bryan Braman is the second stringer for the moment, behind Brooks Reed.
In the receiving corps, the second team has fourth-round pick Keshawn Martin ahead of Lestar Jean, but behind Andre Johnson.
