Tulsa, OK (Sports Network) – Justin Hurtt scored a game-high 16 points as the Golden Hurricane of Tulsa defeated the Rice Owls, 75-64, in a Conference USA showdown at the Reynolds Center.
Steven Idlet and Jordan Clarkson netted 15 points apiece in the win for Tulsa (8-7, 1-1 CUSA). Scottie Haralson contributed 12 points, while Bryson Pope added 11 and five steals.
Rice (8-8, 0-2) was led by Arsalan Kazemi’s double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Suleiman Braimoh added 12 points in the loss.
Tulsa held a comfortable 35-21 lead after holding the Owls to a miserable 25.8 percent shooting from the floor in the opening half.
The Golden Hurricane took advantage of their many visits to the charity stripe in the second stanza, converting 20-of-25 at the free-throw line in order the secure the 11-point victory.
Tulsa came away with the win despite being significantly outrebounded by Rice, 40-29, including a 17-3 advantage on the offensive boards.
