SWAC Tournament 2011: Almost All Chalk (And Tigers) As Texas Southern Gets Ready For Semifinals

That buzz you’re hearing from the SWAC Tournament is the Alabama St. Hornets, who looked mighty impressive in kicking around Alabama A&M yesterday. They join a trio of Tigers in the semifinals, and will face the top-seeded Texas Southern Tigers today for the right to advance to the SWAC Tournament Championship. Here’s how the bracket has shook out so far:

Wednesday:

2 Jackson St. Tigers 50 vs. 7 Prairie View A&M Panthers 38
1 Texas Southern Tigers 50 vs. 8 Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions 45

Thursday:

3 Mississippi Valley St. Delta Devils 62 vs. 6 Grambling Tigers 65
4 Alabama St. Hornets 81 vs. 5 Alabama A&M Bruisers 61

Friday:

2 Jackson St. Tigers vs. 6. Grambling Tigers — 2:30 PM
1. Texas Southern Tigers vs. 4. Alabama St. Hornets — 8:00 PM

Saturday

Championship game — 7:30 PM

Neither game will be televised, yet again. So stick around on the intertubes and keep updated via GameTrackers and their ilk. The two winners today advance to the final on Friday. I might be a little concerned as a TSU fan after watching what Alabama State did yesterday. TSU did not look smooth in their first round match and will have to step it up another gear to play with the Hornets. Nevertheless, it’s hard to pick against a Jackson State-Texas Southern semifinal at this point.
