At least one of the three Houston schools competing in conference tournament action on Wednesday evening will get through with a victory. Texas Southern, the top seed in the SWAC tournament after a 16-2 conference campaign, got all they could handle from Arkansas-Pine Bluff, but withstood the test and advanced with a 50-45 victory.
The Tigers' triumph wasn't in hand until Justin Ray hit a pair of free throws with 2.5 seconds left to ice the game.
TSU advances to Friday's semifinal, where they will face the winner of Thursday's Alabama A&M-Alabama State match-up.
