The Rice University Owls are set to open their season on Thursday night against the UCLA Bruins on Thursday night.
Unfortunately, the Owls will be without right tackle John Poehlman and defensive tackle Bobby Kieswetter, who both suffered season-ending injuries in training camp, via Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle:
Redshirt freshman John Poehlmann, who entered preseason camp as the backup at right tackle, will miss the season with an ankle injury.
"(John) was in a drill and got hit from behind.," Rice head coach David Bailiff said Wednesday. "It's the greatest game in the world, but injuries are a byproduct. You do everything you can to keep them safe, but you can never fully prevent them."
The Owls will also be without reserve defensive tackle Bobby Kieswetter, who suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Rice was already missing wide receiver Mario Hull (torn pectoral muscle) and defensive end Josh Skinner (dislocated toe).
