After holding on to Brett Myers at the trade deadline, GM Ed Wade has handed his "warrior" a contract extension. According to the Houston Chronicle, the deal guarantees Myers $21M through 2012, and can be worth as much as $29.5M through 2013.

Wade had nothing but good comments of Myers, saying:

"He has re-established himself as a frontline starting pitcher, and we’re going to rely on him to anchor our staff. He brings a veteran presence, and he’s still only 29 years old."

Myers has certainly been a bargain pickup for the Astros this year, sporting a 3.10 ERA with an 8-6 record. Myers has also gone at least 6 innings in every start this season. The Astros may not contend this year, and possibly not the next, but come 2012, with a healthy Myers, the Astros certainly could contend.
