Unless some late news creeps from the depths of Reliant Stadium, it appears that the Houston Texans will take a pass on the trade market in 2010.

As stated earlier, the Texans had expressed interest in making a deal to shore up their hole at linebacker, but apparently, there wasn’t anything worthwhile.

We’ll keep you updated throughout the day, but for now, it appears the Texans will either use the free agent market, or they’ll simply stick with what they’ve got.

They likely won't make a huge splash on Tuesday's 3 p.m. NFL trade deadline, but the Houston Texans would like to make a move in order to shore up their depleted linebacking corps.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle hinted at a possible move Tuesday morning.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak said he and general manager Rick Smith will do everything they can to improve the NFL's 31st-ranked defense, including a possible trade before today's 3 p.m. deadline.

Star middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans injured his achilles tendon in Sunday's win over Kansas City and will miss the remainder of the season. With backup linebackers Xavier Adibi, Darryl Sharpton and Kevin Bentley currently mending injuries of their own (though they are expected to return following the bye week), the Texans could use some helpful additions, if only to provide more depth.

As McClain points out, it's unlikely the Texans will be able to make a big splash, and even if they were to do so, a single move won't do much to fix their struggling defense.

Stay tuned with Battle Red Blog throughout the day.
