Houston, TX (Sports Network) – Luis Scola scored 35 points, including eight during a key fourth-quarter run the Rockets used to earn a 97-83 victory over the Detroit Pistons at Toyota Center.

Scola added 12 rebounds while Kyle Lowry finished with 22 points, 12 assists and six steals for the Rockets, who rebounded from Saturday’s overtime loss at Chicago to win for the third time in four December games.

"I think a lot of teams are in the same boat we are," said Rockets head coach Rick Adelman. "You've got to go out and you've got to get these wins at home."

Rodney Stuckey provided 18 points to pace the Pistons, who were coming off Sunday’s win over Cleveland. Detroit has not won back-to-back games since mid- November.

"They took the game to us," said Pistons center Ben Wallace. "They were able to come away with a good win. I think they forced us to play their style of basketball."

Former Rocket Tracy McGrady, who signed with Detroit in the offseason, drained a three-pointer to get the Pistons within 78-77 with 8:17 to play.

But less than a minute later, Lowry made two free throws to start a 15-2 Houston run. Scola powered the Rockets during the late stages of the burst, which he ended with a jumper and hook shot.

Detroit missed only three shots in the same span, but turned the ball over three times to facilitate the Rockets. The pivotal stretch gave Houston a 93-79 lead with 3:19 left, essentially securing the win.

Scola scored 10 points during the first quarter to help Houston take a 29-24 edge, and the second quarter involved some wild point swings.

Detroit scored six in a row to take a 43-34 lead about midway through, but Houston ended the half on a 20-2 run. Kevin Martin, who totaled 21 points, finished the turnaround with four free throws to put the Rockets up by nine at the break.

Detroit trailed, 75-66, at the start of the fourth, but quickly got back in the game thanks to Stuckey's three-point play and an Austin Daye three- pointer.

Game Notes

Daye scored 12 off Detroit's bench, while McGrady added 11 points...The Pistons' Richard Hamilton was ejected late in the second quarter after receiving a second technical foul...Martin scored 14 of his points at the foul line.

(Sports Network) - Tracy McGrady and his Detroit Pistons take aim at a rare winning streak in south Texas Tuesday when they visit the Houston Rockets.

Tonight's game will also mark the return of T-Mac to Houston for the first time since the former All-Star was traded by the Rockets to New York last season, following five-plus years with the franchise.

McGrady, who has a limited role with the Pistons these days, averaged 23.1 points during his time in Houston, helping the club to four different 50-win seasons until chronic knee problems limited his effectiveness.

"There will be some cheers," Rockets forward Chuck Hayes told the team's website. "He was the leader of this team. He did carry this team up until his last year and a half or so. It was unfortunate that his last (impression) here was a bad one, but when he first got here and was healthy, he was a bad boy."

McGrady, who signed with Detroit over the summer, is averaging just 3.8 points per game in 16 minutes of action a night for the Pistons.

Most recently the Pistons snapped a four-game skid on Sunday when the trio of Richard Hamilton, Rodney Stuckey and Tayshaun Prince combined for 71 points, carrying Detroit past the struggling Cavaliers, 102-92.

Hamilton led the way with 27 points, Stuckey scored 24 to go with 11 assists, and Prince netted 20 for Detroit. Ben Gordon chipped in 12 points for the Pistons, who made 9-of-20 attempts from behind the arc.

The Rockets, meanwhile, are coming off a tough overtime loss in Chicago on Saturday. Derrick Rose tied the game at the end of regulation with a three- pointer and made the go-ahead layup late in the extra frame in that one, as the Bulls outlasted Houston, 119-116.

Luis Scola ended with 27 points and eight rebounds to pace the Rockets, who saw a modest two-game winning streak come to an end. Brad Miller had 20 points in a reserve role, while Kyle Lowry tallied 16 points and seven boards in defeat.

The Rockets had hoped to get former All-Star center Yao Ming, who has missed the team's last 13 games with an ankle injury, back tonight but that has already been scuttled.

"It's not strong enough," Yao said of the ankle. "There's no damage, it's just not strong enough to support me running and jumping. We haven't talked about (a new timetable) yet."

Houston, which has also been without injured point guard Aaron Brooks (ankle) since Nov. 6, has taken three of its past four meetings with the Pistons and has won four straight at Toyota Center in this series.
