A last-minute, first-half penalty kick by Landon Donovan was all LA needed to drop a poor Dynamo team. It was a lackluster night all around as both teams were clearly playing with one eye on the weekend’s action, but LA made better work of its chances and managed the win and all three points.

The Dynamo never seemed to get out of third gear and a lack of scoring chances was obvious. Koke and Bruin started the match for Houston, but the service to the forwards was poor and neither player was able to make a substantial difference in the match.

Landon Donovan continued to haul the Galaxy on his back and managed to have the only goal, despite having a quiet night.

It’s hard to give any Dynamo player a Man Of The Match award when the team loses, but Tally Hall came up with a few solid saves and seems to be most deserving. Andre Hainault also had another ironman performance and held together the back line throughout the night.

Miguel Lopez entered the game in the 74th minute for Chad Barrett, marking LA’s second sub of the match. Houston has used all three.

Sergio Koke’s night was over in the 74th minute when he was taken off in favor of Cam Weaver. Koke had a fair night but was not as effective as hoped for, though his service (or lack thereof) is more to blame for that than the man.

Both the Houston Dynamo and LA Galaxy made calls to the bench in the 60th minute. The Galaxy brought on Mike Magee for Juan Pablo Angel and the Dynamo subbed Brad Davis off for JeVaughn Watson.

This is LA’s first substitute of the match and Houston’s second. Both of these moves to the bench indicate that both teams have one eye on the upcoming weekend’s action.

Former starting left back, Mike Chabala, is set to get some solid playing against the Galaxy after being brought into the match at the halftime break for Corey Ashe.

Ashe had a decent showing on the night, and is likely being substituted out due to fixture congestion and the weekend’s match against in-state rivals FC Dallas.

Beyond a Landon Donovan penalty kick goal, there is not much to report from tonight’s match against the LA Galaxy. After 45 minutes neither team has managed to dominate or take control of the match, though both teams have had a number of opportunities in front of goal.

Los Angeles have looked the more dangerous of the two teams, but Houston has looked strong on set pieces.

Hopefully the second half will be more entertaining and Houston will figure out how to jump-start what has been a fairly stagnant offense.

Landon Donovan scored his eighth goal of the campaign in the 45th minute of the match after Dynamo midfielder Lovel Palmer handled the ball in Houston’s box.

Palmer was streaking back to cover on defense and inadvertently handled the ball in the box when he turned to defend. Up to this point, neither team managed to take control of the game, but both teams had a number of opportunities in front of goal.
