New Texas A&M Aggies head football coach Kevin Sumlin has finally filled out his coaching staff, and it took only two months to do so. The final hire was for a linebackers coach and Sumlin brought in Matt Wallerstedt who previously was the defensive coordinator for the Air Force Falcons:

"Matt has done a great job at the Air Force Academy and he will be a great addition to our staff," Sumlin said. "He is another coach on our staff with coordinator experience as well as experience serving as a recruiting coordinator."

Wallertedt worked with former Texas A&M defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter while at Air Force, so Wallertedt brings in some familiarity to the Texas A&M defense. Prior to taking the linebackers coaching job with Texas A&M Wallerstedt has coached at Air Force, Kansas State, Wyoming, Akron and others.

With the hiring of former Marshall head coach and USF defensive coordinator Mike Synder now official, the outline of new coach Kevin Sumlin's plan for the Texas A&M Aggies in their first season in the SEC is coming into view.

While the conference is known primarily for defense, Arkansas' Bobby Petrino has shown you can win with a high-powered spread offense similar to the one Sumlin ran at Houston.

And in a sign that he has no interest in changing his offensive philosophy, Sumlin is bringing a huge contingent of his Cougars staff with him to College Station: offensive coordinator and former Texas Tech QB Cliff Kingsbury, running backs coach Clarence McKinney and offensive line coach BJ Anderson.

He's rounded out the offensive staff with David Beaty, a former offensive coordinator at Rice and Kansas, as the WR coach and Brian Polian as his special teams coach.

The only coach from Mike Sherman that he has retained is defensive line coach Terrell Williams, as Snyder is expected to have heavy input in how the rest of the defensive coaching staff is filled out.

Snyder was Jim Tressel's defensive coordinator at Ohio State in the early 2000's before an unsuccessful stint as a head coach at Marshall.

According to a report from Texags.com, Kevin Sumlin has decided to hire Mark Snyder, the current defensive coordinator at South Florida, to run his defense:

The 47-year old Synder made his reputation as Jim Tressel's defensive coordinator at Ohio State from 2001-2004 before returning to Marshall, where he was a safety in the 1980's, to become the Thundering Herd's head coach.

He went 22-37 in five seasons at Marshall before being forced out at the end of the 2009 season and taking the job as South Florida's defensive coordinator as a part of new coach Skip Holtz's staff.

Even though the Bulls have gone only 13-12 in Snyder's two seasons in Tampa Bay, his defense was rated in the top 40 nationally in both years.

At Texas A&M, Snyder will have a lot of leeway to coordinate the defense under Sumlin, an offensively-oriented coach who has spent most of his career on that side of the ball.
