The Houston Texans are still working on deals for their top three selections, but the other five have signed with the team, according to longtime NFL writer John McClain at the Houston Chronicle.

Jones is an offensive lineman out of Georgia that could see some playing time in his rookie year. The Texans addressed their needs at the wide receiver position by taking Posey and Martin, both of which should be interesting new weapons for quarterback Matt Schaub.

While a 2013 mock draft written before the 2012 season is on some level an exercise in futility, it does give a glimpse into what college players could emerge as game-changing stars this season.

One such player could be Texas A&M OT Luke Joeckel, who ESPN Insider Todd McShay projects as a late-first round pick in his first 2013 mock draft.

Joeckel, a 6'6 310 offensive tackle, has lived up to all the hype that accompanied his recruitment to College Station in 2009 as one of the top high school prospects in the country. He was the rare offensive lineman to contribute immediately as a true freshman, and as a sophomore, he was an All Big 12 second-team selection.

After protecting Ryan Tannehill's blindside over the last two seasons, Joeckel will be tasked with helping the Aggies break in a new QB as they enter the SEC in 2012.

The popular undrafted rookie free agent signing in town is obviously the signing of Houston Cougars legend Case Keenum. But the truth is, Keenum is likely to be the third-string quarterback and if Texans fans are hopeful, he won't see the field after preseason action.

For the National Football Post's money, picking up BYU defensive tackle Loni Fangupo is not only the Texans' best rookie free agent signing, but it's among the best in the league. This from the Post regarding the Fangupo signing:

A naturally strong kid with a great attitude and work rate. Needs to improve pad level, but has the kind of natural power and work ethic to make it with some time.

Fangupo could be a late bloomer in the NFL, since he bounced around a bit in college, going from a community college in San Antonio, to USC then to BYU. But he should be able to find a role in the 3-4 scheme.

Since the main focus for the Houston Texans in the 2012 NFL Draft was replacing Mario Williams, it's only fitting that landing a pass rusher late in the first round was exactly what the team was hoping for.

ESPN.com's Jeff Chadiha sees this marriage working and compared the 6-foot-3, 260 pound Whitney Mercilus to Aldon Smith of the San Francisco 49ers. Smith is also a former college defensive end who made the transition to playing the 3-4 pass rushing scheme last season.

This from Chadiha:

Mercilus may have been a one-dimensional defensive end at Illinois, but that one dimension -- pass-rushing -- is exactly what the Texans needed. They already have a coach (defensive coordinator Wade Phillips) who knows how to turn undersized college defensive ends into dominant pass-rushing outside linebackers.

Mercilus also has exactly the kind of résumé that should make Phillips' job much easier. Mercilus made his name in college by leading the country in sacks (16) and forced fumbles (nine) as a junior last fall. He wasn't much of a threat against the run, but the Texans won't be as concerned about that early in his career.

The Houston Texans are taking Florida Gators linebacker Jelani Jenkins in the 2013 NFL Mock Draft, according to SB Nation's very own Mocking the Draft. Over the last year, since acquiring Wade Phillips as the defensive coordinator and him implementing the 3-4 defense, the Texans have truly been transformed on that side of the ball.

That's why they looked to replace Mario Williams in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft by selecting Whitney Mercilus. Jenkins started 12 games at weakside linebacker for the Gators in 2011. He finished third on the team in tackles with 75, second in breakups with six and recorded two sacks for a total loss of 20 yards.

Jenkins also has experience playing middle linebackers, so he could play inside for the Texans if the stars were to align in such a way.

The Houston Texans targeted a replacement for Mario Williams with their first-round pick Whitney Mercilus, and for that selection and the rest of their draft, they earned a B- grade from the SB Nation roundtable.

While the pick of Mercilus received positive feedback, the group was not too high on the receivers the Texans selected to line up opposite of Andre Johnson.

The sense of the division as a whole was that running backs will dominate the offense for all four teams in 2012.
