Former Houston Texans WR Jacoby Jones didn't waste much time in finding a new NFL home, as he signed a two-year $7 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday.

Jones never quite lived up to expectations in Houston, and his fumble on a punt return in their playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens may have ultimately ended their season.

However, Baltimore reacted quickly to pick up their former foe, signing him to a deal that would slide him into the No. 3 WR position with the Ravens.

Baltimore had been looking for a WR capable of returning punts, as they recently signed CB Ladarius Webb to a six-year $50 million deal, making him to valuable an investment to be handling return duties anymore.

Last season with the Texans, Jones caught 31 passes for 512 yards and 2 TD's with a 11.02 punt return average.

As if being let go by a team on the basis of under-performance isn't bad enough, recently released Houston Texans wide receiver Jacoby Jones has to deal with the fact that he won't at all be missed by the fan base.

Certainly Jones isn't the first player to be released by a team in which the fans of said team are left asking, "What the hell took so long?" But still, many Texans fans are of the belief that Jones' mishaps in the playoffs against the Baltimore Ravens is what stands between the city of Houston and its first ever Super Bowl victory. That'd be a heavy burden if a guy were to stay in the city.

So not only is Jones out of the door, and not only will he not be missed, but he couldn't have been gone fast enough for Houstonians. Look at it like this: When Mario Williams decided to move on to the Buffalo Bills, he was still admired by a certain portion of the fan base (and the case could be made that he under-performed at times, though definitely not to the degree of Jones). When Eric Winston was let go during the offseason, many Texans fans were devastated. And when DeMeco Ryans was sent packing in a trade to the Philadelphia Eagles, that struck a nerve in Houston as well.

The release of Jacoby Jones, though? There isn't anything the front office could do at this point to make the fans any happier.

So given the situation, and with the benefit of hindsight, why was there even a discussion last offseason as to whether the Texans should sign Vonta Leach - the best fullback in the NFL, or Jones - who apparently wasn't even the second or third or fourth best receiver on Houston's team?

The under-producing Jones is gone from Houston, an expected move after the Texans took two receivers during this past weekend's Draft.

Beware the ides of playoff fumbles: The Houston Texans have released wide receiver Jacoby Jones, Houston's first major roster casualty after the 2012 NFL Draft:

The move should come as absolutely no shock for Houston fans - Jones has been public enemy No. 1 after muffing a punt in the Texans' playoff loss to Baltimore, and the front office tried to trade him before the Draft, but found no takers. After the weekend's moves - Houston spent a third and a fourth round pick on Ohio State's Devier Posey and Michigan State's Keshawn Martin - it was clear the organization was looking to upgrade and move on.

Jerome Solomon of the Houston Chronicle broke down exactly what "upgrade" entailed in a brutal assesment of Jones, who caught only 31 passes all season in 2011:

There are other factors – the Texans had one of the best running games in the league and rookie T.J. Yates had to start the final five regular-season games at quarterback after injuries to Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart – but 31 receptions for a guy once described as a co-No. 2 receiver is a pitiful total. There were 132 players in the NFL, including 81 receivers, who caught more.

If the Texans' Draft class - defense, defense, defense and two wide receivers - didn't say it loudly enough, that about does.
