A blown save by closer Brett Myers in the ninth spoiled a fine outing by Wandy Rodriguez and opened the door for a 3-2 loss in 12 innings to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Astros fell behind early on an Andrew McCutchen RBI double to left in the first inning. Rodriguez would settle down after that and was pretty much untouchable the rest of the way. Houston tied things up in the fifth on a Jastro RBI single and took the lead in the seventh on an RBI single by Chris Johnson.

The score would remain 2-1 until the ninth when Myers loaded the bases and surrendered a game-tying sac fly to Pedro Alvarez. Myers worked his way out of the jam but the damage was done as the game shifted into extra innings. Pittsburgh broke through in the 12th when Clint Barmes hit a two out double and Josh Harrison followed with the game-winning single off of Fernando Rodriguez.

Carlos Lee and Jason Castro finished with two hits each for the Astros. Neil Walker went 2 for 5 for the Pirates. Tony Watson earns his third win of the season with a perfect inning of relief. Rodriguez suffers his fourth loss after allowing two hits and one run while failing to record an out.

The Houston Astros entered the bottom of the ninth with a 2-1 lead only to see their closer Brett Myers give it up. The game now heads to extra innings tied 2-2.

Myers started the inning by walking the leadoff batter Jose Tabata. Neil Walker followed with a double to put the Pirates in business with runners at second and third with no one out. After an intentional walk to Andrew McCutchen to lead the bases, Pedro Alvarez hit a sacrifice fly that scored Tabata and tied the game. Myers then rallied to strike out pinch hitter Nate McLouth and got Alex Presley to ground out to end the inning.

Myers blown save spoils an outstanding outing for starter Wandy Rodriguez who allowed just three hits and one run over eight innings of work. The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the first on a McCutchen double. The Astros answered back with RBI hits from Jason Castro and Chris Johnson.

He has been very effective against the Pirates with a 5-1 record and a 2.94 ERA in his last seven starts against Pittsburgh.

The Pirates will counter with righty A.J. Burnett who is 1-0 with a 1.20 ERA in two starts at PNC Park.
Hopefully the Houston Astros and the Pittsburgh Pirates can be less anemic on Saturday. The two teams managed just eight hits combined in the Astros 1-0 win on Friday. Brian Bogusevic scored the only run of the contest as Justin Maxwell inexplicably grounded into a double play.

The Pirates were shut out by an exquisite pitching performance by four Astros hurlers, can they turn it around on Saturday? Casey McGehee has replaced Garrett Jones at first base, Michael McKenry takes over behind the plate for Rod Barajas and Nate McLouth has been replaced by Yamalco Navarro in the outfield.

The Houston Astros face off against the Pittsburgh Pirates again on Saturday night, as the Astros look for their second straight win -- and to inch closer to .500 on the season.

J.A. Happ will start for Houston, and has a tough act to follow. Bud Norris pitched like an All-Star on Friday, pitching six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and walking none while striking out eight en route to the win.

Happ so far on the young season is the owner of a 2-2 record and 5.24 ERA. Happ's secondary numbers match the ugly ERA, as he has a 1.57 WHIP, and opponents are hitting .279 off of him. Happ has struggled with his command this year, issuing 16 walks in 34.1 innings.

Charlie Morton will start for the Pirates. Morton takes a 1-3 record, 4.61 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and .288 BAA into Saturday night's contest. Morton is coming off of back-to-back losses and has allowed nine earned runs over 10.1 innings in his last two starts.

Televised coverage can be found on Fox Sports Houston. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT.

Bud Norris allowed only three hits in six solid innings of work as the Houston Astros were able to edge the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 1-0, taking the first game of the weekend series at PNC Park.

Right-fielder Brian Bogusevic led off the second inning with a single and later scored the only run of the night for the Astros. That was all the run support that was needed for Norris, as he fanned eight batters without issuing any walks in route to improving his record to 3-1. He got into trouble in the sixth inning but was able to pitch his way out of a bases-loaded jam by striking out two batters and inducing a pop out. Closer Brett Myers pitched the final frame, recording his ninth save of the season.
