The Houston Texans suffered through a small wave of injuries at the beginning of training camp, but they should be looking a lot healthier by the time the season rolls around. Standout defensive end J.J. Watt is progressing well in his rehab and is still expected to be ready for Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins.

Nick Scurfield at the official Texans website reported on Monday that Watt will still be out a couple of weeks after dislocating his elbow last Thursday, but is looking good.

"He's doing excellent," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said. "Heck, he was doing some push-ups in the training room yesterday. But we knew that; he's so driven in everything he does. He's so upbeat because he knows he's going to be ready to go and we'll see where we're at here as we get to the middle of the preseason. Hopefully, he can come back and play some of the preseason, but obviously the goal is to have him ready for Miami (Week 1 on Sept. 9)."

Watt's coaches have nothing but good things to say about him and believe this could be his breakout year.

A rash of early camp injuries continues for the Houston Texans.

The Houston Texans have dealt with their share of injuries so far this training camp and the latest is to defensive end J.J. Watt. The second year player dislocated his elbow at training camp on Thursday.

Watt is targeting a Week 1 return from the injury, but the next month is still a time for players to show they can fill in during the injury.

In the mean time, Tim Jamison and Ra'Shon Harris will look to fill the void left by Watt. Having attended Texans training camp last year, I remember being very impressed by Jamison and what he brings to the table. If Watt should miss any time, it would hurt, but Jamison should be able to hold the fort.

A season ago, Watt had 56 tackles and 5.5 sacks. Without Mario Williams or DeMeco Ryans, the Texans will need him on the field.
