The Houston Texans didn't seem to have much of a problem with the Miami Dolphins in their 30-10 win on Sunday, and part of that may have been thanks to HBO's Hard Knocks.

Texans defensive end J.J. Watt told Pro Football Talk on the NBC Sports Network that he picked up on some of Miami's snap counts from watching the show.

Questioned on the show, Watt seemingly didn't want to initially give away his information but said the all-access show about a team's journey through training camp did indeed help him on the field on Sunday.

In a league full of coaches trying to gain an advantage by catching their opponents off-guard and keeping them guessing, it could turn out being a red flag for other franchises potentially interested in showcasing their team on the show.

From Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk:

That one line could provide future coaches and G.M.'s with the ammunition they need to push back against an owner who decides he wants to be a carnival barker.

The Houston Texans started their 2012 season with a 30-10 win over the Miami Dolphins, but head coach Gary Kubiak was not satisfied with everything about the season opener.

Kubiak told reporters on Monday that he wants more from Houston's run game, via Sean Bielawski of CBSSports.com:

"I think that's a mark of a good team," Kubiak said. "Everybody knows you got to run it to finish a game you still line up and run it. We didn't do that [Sunday]."

The right side of the offensive line features two new starters from a year ago in right guard Antoine Caldwell and right tackle Derek Newton. Kubiak wasn't putting the running game woes on them, though.

"Obviously, they are two new players for us," Kubiak said. "That was Newton's first start in the NFL. So, some good, some bad. I think we knew that going in. That is what we're going to get. Caldwell has started some games, but I'm looking at it the big picture. We didn't run the ball well whether we ran it right, left, or up the middle."

The Texans ran for an average of just 2.4 yards per carry, with running back Arian Foster averaging 3.0. Kubiak emphasized that he wants a collective effort to improve on the ground going forward.

Sloppy start, but they finished strong

Make no mistake, the Texans weren't sharp early on. However, they overcame their slow start and by the end of the game were up by twenty. Previous Texans teams would have folded, but they did what good teams are supposed to do; they blew out a bad team. Even the best teams have games where they play a little sluggish, but finding a way to win by three scores even when they weren't on top of their game was impressive. If they play like they did during the first 25 minutes of the Miami game the rest of the season, they won't reach their goals, but I won't worry until the slow starts become a trend.

Offense: B-

Scoring 30 points looks impressive on the surface, but the Texans did almost nothing without a short field with 24 of their points coming off of Miami turnovers. Even though they scored 30, I can't give them full credit since they only scored six when having to put together a full drive. A couple drives looked very similar to previous seasons with the Texans moving the ball with ease until they get on the opponents side of the 50, then they bogged down. This was especially evident on their first possession of the game, though they had some help from another awful challenge decision from Kubiak. Seriously, either Kubiak is being influenced by the fans or he's ignoring his guys in the booth who's job it is to watch the replays and advise him on whether or not to challenge. It was clearly not a catch on the would be touchdown pass to Lestar Jean and every replay showed it. Kubiak has improved a lot in his time with the Texans, but he's still awful in his decision making on challenges. He routinely seems to make either stubborn decisions on challenging or deciding to challenge more on hope that it will be changed than knowing it will because of the replay evidence. If he's just listening to the fans, he should start using a t-shirt cannon to shoot the red flag on the field; at least that would be entertaining. Very frustrating.

The run game did not look good for most of the game and the Texans offensive line got pushed around by the Dolphins front seven. Overall the Texans averaged just 2.4 yards per carry, a pitiful number considering they averaged 4.5 as a team last season. The struggles on Sunday I think were mostly because the Dolphins are solid against the run (ranked 3rd last season), but there is definitely some reason for concern going forward with the right side of the offensive line. Maybe they'll improve as the season goes on with more time to work together, but the losses of Eric Winston and Mike Brisel were felt on Sunday.

Passing game was a little sloppy early on with drops from Keshawn Martin and Andre Johnson, but they seemed to work out the kinks by the end of the game. Schaub made quick decisions, was accurate, and veteran targets Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels had big days catching the ball.

Defense: A-

Good effort overall, but concerns over their run defense brings down their grade.

Ryan Tannehill looked sharp on the first drive on short passes, but showed his age early on when he looked away from the center and the snap bounced off his chest. Helping Tannehill was the Dolphins clearly winning the battle on the line in the first quarter. Tannehill had plenty of time, there were big running lanes, and the Texans defense just generally got pushed around early. Later in the game the Texans started to sit on the short routes and jam the Dolphin receivers; a wise decision since they didn't have any deep threats.

Tannehill will have nightmares about J.J. Watt all week. Guy played like he had tree limbs for arms, was batting passes like he was Hakeem Olajuwon. Understand those deflections were not blind luck, Watt deflected a lot of passes last year as well. Watt is a very smart player, realized he wasn't going to get to the quarterback with his pass rush with how quickly the Dolphins were getting rid of it, so he put his hands up and nearly by himself changed the momentum of the game. Sure the offense had short fields, but it seemed like Watt's play even lifted up their spirits and snapped them out of the funk they were in for most of the 1st half. The line opened up a big hole for Foster's first touchdown run, something that wasn't happening early on. Johnson made a beautiful catch on a fade pass for their third touchdown after dropping a couple passes early on. All it takes is a spark to start a fire, and Watt was that spark.

Reggie Bush was surprisingly effective between the tackles. The Texans were great against the run last season but suffered injuries to defensive lineman J.J. Watt and Shaun Cody during training camp. Maybe it'll just take time for the unit to get into game shape and gel since several key players missed time and didn't play together much during the preseason. Bush averaged 4.9 yards per carry with the Texans knowing he was their only true threat. Had the Dolphins not fallen behind badly after the streak of turnovers from Tannehill; Bush would have easily topped 100 yards. The Texans need to get this fixed quickly with Maurice Jones-Drew, Ray Rice, and Matt Forte coming up on the schedule.

Special Teams: B

Trindon Holliday looked great in the preseason, but I promise you this; many more bobbles or fumbles like Holliday had on the kickoff after the Dolphins first field goal will get him cut. Holliday had to be nearly perfect to make the team in the first place, and Kubiak will not tolerate not securing the ball. He had a fumble in the preseason game against the Saints, his bobble gave the Texans the ball at the five yard line in the late first quarter; a few more of those will get him cut.

Shayne Graham missed a kick, but it was accurate, just came up a little short on the 50+ yard attempt. Overall Graham looked good making three out of four attempts and I expect him to be solid for the Texans going forward.

Overall: B+

A little sloppy at times, weren't sharp early on, but at the end of the day the won by three scores and got the job done.

The Houston Texans kicked off the 2012 NFL season with a win on Sunday, defeating the inept Miami Dolphins, 30-10.

Star running back Arian Foster rushed for only 79 yards on 26 carries, but added two touchdowns on the ground. Matt Schaub was 20-of-31 passing for 266 yards and a touchdown. As expected, Andre Johnson led the Texans in receiving, hauling in eight passes for 119 yards and a touchdown.

Needless to say, the folks over at Battle Red Blog were quite pleased with the outcome.

Not everything was golden, however.

The Houston Texans were near-dominant in their 30-10 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday and came out of the game fairly healthy, save for a rather concerning neck injury to linebacker Tim Dobbins.

Dobbins had leave the game with an injury to his neck and according to coach Gary Kubiak, had to be sent to the hospital for further checks. The Texans also had minor issues with Brian Cushing and CB Jonathan Joseph, yet neither should be a long-term concern:

A couple things, (LB Tim)Dobbins had got a neck issue. We had to send him to the hospital for some further checks. (LB Brian) Cush(ing) is a little sore but came out of the game ok. (CB) Jonathan Joseph got sick on us in the second half, but he's ok. So that's where we're at. Dobbins will be our biggest issue.

Dobbins is in his second season with the Texans, having played for most of his seven-year career with the San Diego Chargers. Dobbins appeared in 15 games with Houston in 2011, recording 12 tackles on the season.

Texans QB Matt Schaub signed a four-year, $62 million contract extension prior to Sunday's game.

Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub signed a four-year, $62 million contract extension that keeps the player under team control through the 2016 season, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The extensions includes $24.75 million guaranteed and is worth $15.5 million per season. The Texans restructured the contract of cornerback Johnathan Joseph in order to free up $4 million in cap space to make room for the extension.

The Atlanta Falcons traded Schaub to the Texans before the 2007 season, when he signed a six-year, $48 million contract with his new team to consummate the trade. At the time, Schaub has started just two games in three seasons with the Falcons as the backup to Michael Vick.

Since coming to Houston, Schaub has become a top quaterback and along with receiver Andre Johnson has led one of the more potent offenses in the AFC. His best season came in 2009, passing for 4,770 yards and 29 touchdowns, with 15 interceptions.

The Texans have not made the postseason with Schaub under center, however. In 2011, the Texans enjoyed the first postseason victory in franchise history with T.J. Yates as quarterback, as Schaub had been placed on injured reserve in midway through the season with a linsfranc injury.

Schaub was 20-of-31 for 266 yards and one touchdown in the Texans' 30-10 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

It took a little bit of time for the Houston Texans offense to get going, but once it did, the Dolphins couldn't do anything to stop it as the Texans opened the 2012 season with a 30-10 victory.

Matt Schaub threw for 286 yards and a touchdown and Arian Foster overcame his questionable status to rush for two touchdowns as well. Andre Johnson posted his typical stellar Andre Johnson line, hauling in eight catches for 119 yards and a touchdown.

The Dolphins defense kept the score respectable until the Dolphins offense unraveled with two minutes left in the first half. The Dolphins kept the Texans scoreless in the first quarter, but quarterback Ryan Tannehill couldn't muster anything as the Dolphins only led 3-0.

It was tied 3-3 going into the closing minutes of the first half before the Texans finally awoke from their deep slumber. They fired off 24 unanswered points in the second quarter, 21 of which came in the final two minutes, to put the game out of the Dolphins' reach.

Tannehill had a rough go around in his first NFL regular season start, throwing three interceptions and finished the game 20-for-36 and 219 yards.

The Big Winner: Andre Johnson
Although Arian Foster had a couple of touchdowns, he only averaged 3.0 yards per carry. Johnson, on the other hand, hauled in eight receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown. Johnson also caught virtually everything Schaub through his way as he was targeted 10 times. And let's just put that GIF back in here of Johnson destroying the Dolphins secondary.

The Big Loser: Ryan Tannehill

Everyone knew that the Dolphins quarterback sitation wasn't the best, but Tannehill didn't do much to gain any confidence in anyone. His three interceptions resulted in three scoring drives for the Texans as everything unraveled toward the end of the first half.

C'mon Twitter, It's Been Only One Game

Tannehill is just a rookie. But the NFL is a harsh world. So despite the fact that he was going against a very good Texans defense in his first NFL regular season start, people on the internet are very unforgiving.

If you have the Texans on your fantasy team, you were in good hands this week.

A lot can be said for either Schaub, Johnson or Foster, but the big winner for fantasy purposes were the Houston Texans defense. They finished the game with three interceptions and a fumble recovery.

How about that spread?

The spread headed up to about 13 points, and the Texans cleared that in their second-quarter barrage of points.

The potent Houston Texans offense was sputtering for most of the first half against the Miami Dolphins until it all started to click, as the Texans have rattled off 24 unanswered points to take a 24-3 lead into half.

The Texans were shutout in the first quarter and the game was sitting tied at 3-3 for most of the game until running back Arian Foster ran in his first touchdown of the quarter off of a 14-yard run. He scored his second touchdown as time started to wind down iwith a short two-yard scamper into the end-zone. Foster has 49-yards off of 12 carries.

Quarterback Matt Schaub hadn't been able to generate much from the passing game until right before the half came to an end. After the Texans recovered a Daniel Thomas fumble, Schaub connected with wide receiver Andre Johnson on two straight passes where the star wide receiver abused the Dolphins trying to cover him. Schaub is 10-for-19 with 146 yards and a touchdown.

The Miami Dolphins defense was doing all it could to keep them in the game as quarterback Ryan Tannehill wasn't doing any favors. He is 9-for-18 for 114 yards, and has thrown three interceptions. Running back Reggie Bush is the lone bright spot for the Dolphins offense as he has rushed 53-yards on 12 carries and has two receptions for 17 yards.
