Texas A&M struck first in front of the home fans and takes a 10-0 lead over the Texas Longhorns after one quarter of play. The Aggies defense has been dominant against the Longhorns holding Texas without a first down in five of its first six possessions in the quarter.
Texas A&M punched it in early with a six play, 57 yard drive that resulted in a touchdown pass from Ryan Tannehill to Ben Malena for an early 7-0 lead. Malena got the start for Cyrus Gray who is out with an injury. The Aggies added a 49 yard field goal later in the quarter to extend their lead to 10-0.
While the defense stiffened late in the first quarter, it is the Longhorn's offense that is going to have to get going. Case McCoy and company didn't produce a first down until the final play of the first quarter. McCoy was 4 for 9 for 42 yards in the first quarter. Jaxon Shipley has two catches for 33 yards.
