Bad, bad news out of Aggieland as we learn that junior running back and Beaumont West Brook product Christine Michael has a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the 2011 season.
↵Michael was still sharing carries with senior Cyrus Gray, but had probably established himself as the best running back on the roster. He had 899 rushing yards and eight touchdowns this season, the most on the team, but hasn't topped 1,000 yards in any of his three seasons with A&M.
↵It's the second straight year Michael has had his season ended with an injury. Last year, he broke his leg in a game against Texas Tech. What that means is NFL teams looking at him will definitely have concerns about these injuries. There was a little question in my mind whether he would declare for the draft after this season, but now, he's almost assured to come back.
↵If Michael can put up a big season (1,500 yards anyone?) without Gray in the same backfield, he'll win back some of the scouts. After all, Frank Gore had two knee surgeries before being drafted by the 49ers.
↵More immediately, though, thoughts go out to Michael in what must be a trying time. Here's to wishing him a speedy recovery.
