It's not Mark Richt, but the Aggies are set to bring in the maestro of the country's top offense.

After a week featuring some bizarre rumors, Texas A&M seems poised to hire the man most thought they would - Houston head coach Kevin Sumlin, who is expected to accept the position sometime Saturday, according to TexasAgs.com.

Sumlin would arrive in College Station on the heels of his most successful season to date at Houston, where he's gathered a 35-17 record with the nation's top rated offense, led by quarterback Case Keenum. Sumlin is a former Aggie offensive coordinator under R.C. Slocum, and worked as a co-offensive coordinator on Bob Stoops' Oklahoma staff.

After dismissing head coach Mike Sherman following A&M Thanksgiving loss to Texas, the Aggie head coaching search set upon the predicted names - Sumlin, Southern Miss head coach Larry Fedora (now at North Carolina) and Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart - before taking a strange turn with persistent rumors that Georgia head coach Mark Richt would jump to A&M after guiding the Bulldogs to another SEC Eastern Division title this season.

The San Antonio Express News was a notable proponent of the rumor A&M and/or Mark Richt expressed interest in one another despite several denials across the national media. The Express-News even noted late Friday that Sumlin was accepting the offer "after Richt declined."
