Texas A&M defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter has been offered and plans to accept the head coach position at Fresno State, according to multiple reports.
DeRuyter is currently serving as interim head coach of the Aggies (6-6) as they prepare to play Northwestern (6-6) in the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas on December 31. According to the Houston Chronicle, there is no indication if DeRuyter will remain as the interim coach of the Aggies for the game. New coaching hire Kevin Sumlin is currently recruiting for the Aggies, and has not completed a staff assembly.
While the Aggies' defense was best known for its second half collapses in 2011, DeRuyter's time in College Station has been a statistical success - in the points-friendly Big 12, DeRuyter's 2010 team brought A&M's scoring defense down from 33.5 points per game to 21.9. However, in 2011 that number jumped to 28.7.
