Aggies Houston-Bound For Meineke Car Care Bowl

It's a good news, bad news sort of thing for Texas A&M's bowl selection. On the good side, they'll be playing in Houston at the Meineke Car Care Bowl, which means the Aggie faithful will be able to pack the house and give A&M a pretty solid home field advantage.

↵

The bad news is they're not only playing in a very low-tier bowl, but they're playing one of the most dangerous 6-6 teams in the country. Northwestern won four of its last five games, including a big victory over Big 10 newbie Nebraska.

Oh, and the whole time, interim head coach Tim DeRuyter will be looking over his shoulder as the Aggies attempt to sign a new head coach.

↵

Which brings up an interesting tangent. DeRuyter was one of the hottest coordinator names on the market last season, but chose to stay at A&M and now isn't even in the running (really) for the Aggie head job. All that cache is much more muted and DeRuyter isn't even being considered to be on a new coach's staff.

↵

I mean, the word out there is if A&M goes with Kevin Sumlin as the head coach, they'll try to bring in Mike Stoops as the new DC. I'm not sure he's an upgrade over DeRuyter, but has he really got a better track record than the current DC? Such is the craziness of coaching searches...
