Texas A&M Baseball: Aggies Make A Statement To The Big 12

Impressive weekend sweep of #15 Oklahoma State puts A&M in first place.

It was a season defining moment for the Aggies this past weekend as they took control of their own destiny and their hopes of a trip to Omaha. Texas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma State began the weekend tightly packed atop the Big 12 standings, and as the dust settled, a clear favorite emerged; Texas A&M.

The Aggies put their highly touted pitching staff on display against an Oklahoma State team that boasted one of the nations top offensive attacks, and the Cowboys were completely silenced, as they managed only four total runs in the three-game series. Also on display were the Aggie bats, which had been heavily criticized so far this season for their lack of production, but managed to put up an impressive 24 total runs in the sweep.

Not only did the Aggies take over the drivers seat in the Big 12, but they made a statement that they are legitimate contenders, not just for the conference title, but for the College World Series title as well. Most people were aware that the Aggies possessed an elite pitching staff, good enough to get them to a Super Regional, but many had questioned whether they could find enough consistency on the offensive end to be championship contenders. Those question marks are now drifting by the wayside as the Aggie lineup appears to be rounding into form, and at just the right time.

It should be an exciting finish to the season, as A&M will look to win another Big 12 Championship and make their first College World Series appearance since 1999.
