Texas A&M vs. LSU: Media policy grows the myth of 'Johnny Football'

Texas A&M redshirt freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel is unable to speak to the media due to Texas A&M policy, but that doesn't stop people from wondering what the quarterback is like off the field.

As Texas A&M redshirt freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel wows Aggies fans with his stellar play this season, most fans have yet to hear from the Kerrville, TX native himself this season.

Texas A&M has a policy that doesn't allow freshmen football players to speak to the media, so they've had to resort to speaking to Manziel's teammates to see what he is like of the field.

Not surprisingly, Manziel is just as energetic off the field as he is on the field. In speaking with Mark Clements of The Advocate, Texas A&M wide receiver Uzoma Nwachukwu said that Manziel's energy and competitiveness transfers when he's away from the football field.

"He's very energetic. He's almost too energetic sometimes. He's very competitive and he's a jokester, so he's one of those guys that you can get along with pretty well."

Nwachukwu taked about Manziel participating in the team's daily four square games in the middle of the Texas A&M locker room and how seriously he takes the game.

"He's one of those guys that takes it a little bit too seriously. He's one of those guys that ... is always arguing calls or diving or making sure he's got his athletic gear on so he's agile."

And while he has had early success, Manziel continues to work hard and improve on the practice field. Offensive lineman Luke Joeckel talked to Clements about how Manziel doesn't like to take a day off during the week.

"I think the offensive line does a good job keeping him humble and telling him he wouldn't be anything without us. He's always been a confident kid; he's always been a great leader. He does work every single practice. He doesn't just go out there and try to get through a practice, he works his tail off. He's a good quarterback to play for, and I've enjoyed it."
