The LSU Tigers received a boost in the BCS Rankings without having to even play a game, landing at No. 5 thanks to Florida's 17-9 loss to Georgia over the weekend.
The Tigers lone loss of the season came against those same Florida Gators, as LSU reeled off two straight wins over ranked teams before their bye week. LSU won against South Carolina and Texas A&M by a combined total of just seven points, using the ninth-best scoring defense in the nation for the two biggest wins.
LSU will face No. 1 Alabama on Saturday, Nov. 3.
The Aggies, meanwhile, rebounding from their loss to the Tigers in a big way, dominating Auburn 63-21 and making the big leap to No. 16 in the BCS rankings. Texas A&M, in their first season in the SEC, will face No. 15 Mississippi State on Saturday.
Staying alive in the BCS was No. 23 Texas, whose narrow 21-17 win over Kansas helped the Longhorns avoid abject disaster in a tumultuous 2012 season for coach Mack Brown. The Longhorns take on No. 18 Texas Tech on Saturday.
